Mark Abumeri, Partner, Knobbe Martens


Mark Abumeri is involved in the practice of all aspects of intellectual property (IP) law with a focus on complex patent matters pending before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent authorities, ranging from petitions/appeals to post-grant proceedings. Mark has extensive experience in managing significant patent portfolios, developing offensive/defensive IP strategies, and rendering opinions concerning infringement/validity of patents. His clients range from small startups to large corporations. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Abumeri served as a Judicial Extern to The Honorable Herman J. Weber at the United States District Court in Cincinnati, Ohio. For five years, Mark worked as a Systems Engineer for Harris Corporation, RF Communications Division in Rochester, New York. While at Harris Corporation, he designed and implemented wireless communication systems for voice and data applications. Mr. Abumeri joined the firm in 1996 and became a partner in 2002. Mark holds a Juris Doctorate from University of Cincinnati - College of Law (J.D. 1996)


Mary Gendron, SVP and Chief Information Officer at Qualcomm Inc.


Mary Gendron leads Qualcomm’s global IT organization, driving operational excellence within the IT function and across the enterprise, as well as collaborating with the executive and business unit leadership teams to ensure Qualcomm continues to incorporate forward-looking technology solutions into the business, products, and strategies to achieve Company business goals.
Prior to joining Qualcomm, Gendron served as senior vice president and chief information officer at Hospira, a leading global pharmaceutical and medical device company. Gendron brings more than 25 years of IT experience to the role, with expertise in developing and executing IT and talent-focused strategies, services and plans. She has led complex global organizations, driving proactive business strategies required to develop differentiation and has consistently generated customer, shareholder and employee value. Prior to working at Hospira, Gendron served as CIO at Celestica International, Inc., and served in other senior IT leadership positions at companies like The Nielsen Company, Motorola and Bell Canada. Gendron holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University in Canada.


Sam Samad, SVP and Chief Financial Officer at Illumina


Sam Samad joined Illumina in 2017 and holds the role of SVP and Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for the company’s finance, accounting, investor relations, internal audit, treasury, facilities and global information systems functions.
Before joining Illumina, Samad held several senior leadership positions at Cardinal Health including Senior Vice President and Corporate Treasurer, leading all tax and treasury functions. During his tenure as Treasurer, Samad also had operational and financial responsibility for Cardinal Health’s China business. Prior to that, Samad served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Cardinal Health’s $85B pharmaceutical segment, among other leadership roles. Prior to Cardinal Health, Samad spent thirteen years at Eli Lilly and Company, in a variety of sales and finance roles, both domestically and internationally, including his role as Chief Financial Officer of the Canada affiliate prior to leaving Eli Lilly. Samad started his career at Pepsico Inc.
Samad holds a BBA degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and an MBA from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. Samad is currently a member of the Board of Visitors at the Owen Graduate School of Management.

Fram Akiki, VP, Electronics & Semiconductor Industry for Siemens PLM Software


Fram Akiki is Vice President, Electronics & Semiconductor Industry for Siemens PLM Software.  He has over 30 years of experience in the electronics and semiconductor industry.  Prior to joining Siemens, Fram was an executive for 12 years with Qualcomm in their chipset division and 21 years with IBM in their microelectronics group. Fram holds a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Clarkson University and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a M.B.A. in International Business from The University of Vermont.  He has authored a number of white papers, holds a patent on RFID/Cellular connectivity for the IoT market and is an adjunct instructor at Clarkson University.
